September 13, 2022. Just a local trip today over to the Basel Botanical gardens (Art Basel is tomorrow). As a plus…the Botanical Gardens are right by the stunning Spalentor Gate, so I enjoyed two experiences at once.
The Botanical Gardens were Founded in 1589 by Caspar Bauhin, making it one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It has been relocated several times and in 1898 it was moved to its present location at the Spalentor.
The Spalentor is the most magnificent and imposing of the three city gates that have survived from the great city fortifications of 1400. In earlier times supplies from Alsace entered the city through this gate. With its square main tower, with round flank towers attached to the corners facing away from the city, it is one of Basels most iconic and historical landmarks.
Every time I walk through one of the three gates I feel as if I am touching history. It gives me chills even just thinking about it.

The Botanical Gardens are so lovely. Quiet, meditative and cool with lots of shade and benches. Just being there calms your soul.

WAIT TILL YOU SEE WHERE I AM GOING NEXT WEEK….WATCH FOR IT!!!!!
